5 JOBS YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF!

Hi There

5 Jobs You've Never Heard Of

So you haven't seen a vacancy in a while that inspires you?  Do you fancy doing something a little bit different?  Out there are some weird and wonderful jobs that people actually do for a living, lets see....

Chief Listening Officer

Have you heard of social media editors.  There are people out there that get paid to update Facebook, Twitter etc all day.  There are Social Media Managers who plan, run and report on social media campaigns but have you come across a Chief Listening Officer?

A Chief Listening Officer will monitor social platforms and conversations to keep track of what is being said about a company or a brand and then respond to complaints, issues or misinformation.

Apparently the first ever Chief Listening Officer job was created in the US in 2010.  More companies now rely on social media for market research and customer service so we may see more roles in the future.  Be on the look out for roles of a similar nature and title coming up in the UK as well.

Lego Builder

Many of us have enjoyed playing with lego at some point in our life but there are only a chosen few that have turned their love of lego building into an adult career.

The Danish toy brand actually employs an undisclosed number of professional model builders to come up with new designs and build models.  The builders have to work to a budget and brief to create a new toy to challenge, stimulate and entertain children.

Technical Lingerie Model

There are plenty of lingerie models out there but did you know that there are underwear models who you never see.

These are technical fitting models or fit models as they are known in the trade.  They are on hand to try out the latest production samples for big brands so bosses can be sure a product will be right before they commit to running them off.

This role can offer a good salary and the opportunity to live in another country depending on where the company's factories are located.  For this job, you do need to keep a steady weight all the time and there will be a clause in your contract for you to keep the same size and measurements.

Waterslide Tester

Ok if you love water slides then this could be the one for you.  This job is very much part of the job of a lifestyle product development manager for First Choice Holidays.

The package tourist industry largely operates on an outsourced basis with UK based holiday firms.  In today's competitive market, quality control across Europe or further afield is vital and companies like First Choice dispatch representatives to check and assess the standards of service, hygiene, safety and entertainment being supplied to their customers.

You will have to be prepared to spend a lot of time away from home in sunny locations and the ideal candidate will have a good eye for detail with a sense of fun.

Pet Food Taster

I don't think that many of you will be appealed by this job title.  The food technologist for Marks and Spencer has never been asked to taste the pet food but he regards it as a key part of his role.  He checks the consistency and aroma of the product and tries to detect undesirable ingredients.  He doesn't actually swallow the food though!

All the Best

Andrea Howard
